Search Engine Marketing

Search engines have become very sophisticated in the way that they determine the relevancy of a website. As they continue to add new criteria and change the way they look at things it is critical for web businesses to keep their websites current.

The search engines primiary focus is to provide the visitors with the most relevant websites possible, and the reason they keep changing their algoryth is to constantly improve that result. The search engine that produces the best results gets the largest number of users and so you see why their focus on relevancy is so important to them.

The issue happens with all of the things they look at to establish that relevancy. In general there are three areas of concern: Format, Content, and Links.

Format

Specifically the html format has an impact on how the search engines see you. There are two sides to the format, the correct way to put tags and content on the page and illegal ways of "tricking" the search engines. Lynch Interactive focusing on making sure that we have every page formatted correctly and including all of the formatting tags that the search engines like while we guide our clients away from any illegal or banable offenses.

Content

Content includes much more than just keywords. Search engines have gotten smart and they can now tell if a page is really discussing a particular subject or not. This means that we have to be sure we have the correct words in paragraphs in the right proportions. It also means that we need to have a sufficient number of pages talking about various subjects. This also helps establish your store as an expert in the industry and helps to build criditiblity with your prospective customers.

Links

Another way the search engines establish how relevant you are is to look at popularity. To do this they look at how many websites link to you, and how relevant to the search term that link it. If it all sounds confusing it is, but think of it as a giant popularity contents, just like in high school you were associated with the people you were seen hanging out with. In this case the links become the association that the search engines tie to you.

There are many ways to build links including registering with search directories, contacting manufacturers of your products, and non-competing companies in your industry. Lynch Interactive works with clients to identify the best source of these links and also gives the client a rationale of "why someone should link to you". If you come up with a solid plan it makes it easy when a staff or owner of the company is talking to someone to ask for the link, and here's how to do it.
